The Department Geoenergy DGE leverages these co-operations for student or lecturer exchange programs as well as for joint research. A solid relationship is the basis for creating more and better opportunities for students of excellence who are eager to study, research, work, and share their knowledge in different countries. Strengthening their academic skills and broadening their way of thinking, analyzing, and facing any technical challenge are the main interests of DGE.

Colorado School of Mines

About
Founded in 1874, Colorado School of Mines is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. It has distinguished itself by developing a research program geared towards responsible stewardship of the Earth and its resources. Mines are among the very few institutions with broad expertise in resource exploration, extraction, production and utilization.
Our Partnership
The cooperation, signed by Brigitte Weinhardt (former vice-rector), between MUL and CSM, started in the 1990s, with the intention to give the possibility to qualified students to have international exchange programs and research experience during their studies. Despite the fact that PE students are the most mobile entity, the agreement for exchangeable students includes other programs like mining engineering.
Student Exchange
The agreement between MUL and CSM is based on one-to-one exchange relation. Since 2006, more than 100 students have been involved in the program. Only qualified and highly motivated students can be successful applicants for this semester abroad possibility offer. CSM taken lectures must be recognized by MUL and vice-versa.
Norwegian University of Science and Technology

As a merge of prior institutions, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) was established in Trondheim in 1996, being the largest and one of the most important universities in Norway. It is split in 3 university campus -Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund- and specialized in technology and natural sciences. By offering about 60 international master’s programs, NTNU is highly sought by students eager to join an international academic exchange.
Our Partnership
The close and successful academic relationship between MUL and NTNU started in 1996. In February 2015, the current contract was celebrated and signed by Peter Moser, MUL vice-rector, and Wolfang Laschet, Adviser and EU programme coordinator, respectively from MUL and NTNU. In which is established that the entire Engineering department is open to the agreement.
Student Exchange
As a part of the covenant, only graduated students can apply to the exchange program. Each semester, 7 students who fulfill the Erasmus requirements and English B2 level can be granted this endorsement.
São Paulo State University

São Paulo State University (Portuguese: Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho", UNESP) is one of the six public universities of the Brazilian state of São Paulo. It is part of the state’s higher education system. UNESP has a combined student body of almost 50,000, spread among its 24 campuses. Main research areas of the School of Engineering - Guaratinguetá UNESP - cover experimental combustion, CO2 capture and sequestration, well monitoring analysis, process optimization.
Our Partnership
The contact started around 2008, when Andreas Nascimento became the first student who had the chance to study at MUL. First official agreement was signed in 2011, with the guidance of Prof. Hofstätter.
Student Exchange
Since 2011, two technical visits have been done by MUL professors in Brazil, and one by a professor from UNESP to Brazil.
Clausthal University of Technology

Wolfhard Wegscheider and Astrid Abel, International Center Clausthal Deputy Director, carried out the first contract between both universities in order to develop new semester-abroad opportunities for engineering students from MUL.
Student Exchange
The agreement allows 2 exchange students per semester who fulfill the Erasmus requirements.
Delft University of Technology
The Netherlands, Delft
About
Established in 1842 by King William II of the Netherlands, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is the largest and oldest Dutch public technological university. It is specially focused on the fields of health, energy, environment and infrastructure. With more than 30 master’s programs taught in English, TU Delft is widely known for its large multicultural student environment which broads the scope of every area of study.
Our Partnership
The last and currently valid contract was signed in 2014 by B.M. Geerken from TU Delft. This agreement is focused on MUL students who are interested in an academic program at Delft included in the departments of: Building and Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences.
Student Exchange
Every semester, just one student will succeed in getting the place to take part in the exchange program and only MSc students can apply. Each candidate has to fulfill the Erasmus and individual requirements according to the selected program.
University of New South Wales

Our Partnership
The current contract just allows 2 exchange students per semester. Nevertheless, in November 2016 a new contract will be signed in which the number of students will increase to 5 per semester. Since 2000, 30 incoming and 24 outgoing students have been benefiting from this partnership, achieving great results in a bilateral way.

This opportunity is available for every student matriculated in an engineering program at MUL who complies with 3rd country mobility and individual requirements according to the program of their selection.
Federal University of Espirito Santo

About
The cooperation with the Federal University of Espirito Santo (Portuguese: Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo, UFES) started in 2018, with Prof. Andreas Nascimento (former Petroleum Engineer from MUL), who is to date heading the Department of Engineering and Technology (DETEC) and is one of the drivers in the Petroleum Engineering Programs from the Campus Sao Mateus - UFES. UFES has approximately 20.000 students, spread in four campuses within the State of Espirito Santo. In Campus São Mateus, all is settled in an environment with approximately 2.300 students, 110 technician and administrative staff, and 190 professors/docents.

First official agreement signed in 2018. Coordinated by Prof. Thonhauser (DPE/MUL) and Prof. Nascimento (UFES), with the accreditation of the Research Group in Petroleum/Natural Gas Engineering, Energy and Environment (GPEPEM-UFES) along with its research line “Well Drilling Digitalization - DPE/MUL” (Portuguese: Digitalização em Perfuração de Poços - DPE/MUL), by the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). The next steps are the development of joint projects focused in solutions for the subsalt (pre-salt) drilling activities in Brazil. Considering the formal starting steps for stablishing a HUB of DPE/MUL in Brazil already a reality, the projects to be developed may be supported by the Brazilian R&D Funds sourced by the Oil & Gas Operators with a focus on Automation and Drilling Optimization.
Student Exchange
Since 2018, two technical visits have been performed by UFES’ professor in MUL, and one bachelor student from UFES has already been enrolled at the Petroleum Engineering Program (MUL 2018/2019) for an exchange semester. Expectations are considering a continuous cooperation development with mobilization of two students per year by each institution, for lectures attendances as well as for development of technical theses.
